About Tom
Forty years in mortgages, and a teacher at heart
How he started. Tom Jarboe (Thomas R. Jarboe) joined his father's mortgage company in 1986 as a loan processor, while still a student at UC Irvine. Within a year he owned part of it. Later he ran it.
Since then. He has originated loans, owned and run mortgage companies, and led large teams. He joined New American Funding in 2026 and leads its Diamond Bar branch.
His approach. Make sure every family understands what they're signing and decides with the facts in hand.
Outside work. Twelve years teaching confirmation classes at St. Denis Catholic Church in Diamond Bar. Concerts at the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theatre, golf, gardening and rehabbing properties.
A family business. Tom works alongside his son, Jonathan Jarboe (NMLS #2628204), who is also a licensed loan officer at New American Funding.

How he works
In Tom's own words
From an interview with Tom, November 2026.
“I want them to be able to confidently trust me that I'm not going to take advantage of them and I'm going to help them get where they want to go.”
“…make sure that the people that I do business with really understand what it is they're doing, and they're happy about it, and they make an honest, educated decision that it's what they want.”
“Teaching is just kind of a passion of mine.”

Who is Tom Jarboe?
Tom Jarboe (NMLS #210600) is a Regional Sales Manager at New American Funding who leads its Diamond Bar, California branch. He has been in mortgages since 1986.
Why does Tom focus on reverse mortgages?
In his words: “I resonate with the elderly, and the elderly definitely want somebody that can understand and empathize with their situation.”
- With so many people 65 and up, and people living longer, he sees older homeowners as an underserved community.
- Reverse mortgages still carry a bad reputation from years past. He believes the public “needs to be re-educated on the truth behind them.”
What is it like to work with Tom?
- He starts by learning what you want to accomplish.
- He explains each step until it makes sense to you.
- Family, a friend or your financial advisor can join any conversation.
Will Tom tell me if a loan isn't right for me?
Yes. If you're unlikely to qualify, or a loan wouldn't leave you better off, he says so. His rule of thumb on reverse mortgages: “If a family can afford to make the payment and they're not in a retirement situation yet, then there's no need for them to go into a reverse.”
What should families set up before they need it?
A living trust and a durable power of attorney, so a trusted person can sign if a parent no longer can. Tom has watched families scramble when nothing was in place. In his words: “I think everybody should have that. Even those that aren't considering a reverse mortgage, it's a good idea to have.”
An estate planning attorney can set these up. Whether a lender accepts a particular trust or power of attorney depends on the loan's rules.
